Digital Media and News Literacy
»The internet is uncharted territory for all of us.«
The phrase, mockingly referenced by Angela Merkel in 2013, unfortunately remains true for Germany in 2024. We are still lagging behind in digitalization across all sectors of society. But digitalization is not just about offering public services online or ensuring schools have Wi-Fi access (in 2021, only 54% of schools in Germany had this, compared to 100% in Denmark). It is, above all, about equipping the entire society with new skills.
To successfully transition into a digital knowledge society, there is a significant need to catch up in terms of digital media and news literacy. We support education, politics, media, and civil society in making this leap—through effective concepts and with empathy—so that citizens, organizations, and institutions are empowered with the necessary tools to navigate both the flood of information and the currents of disinformation.
